Description Mahogany and mahogany veneer lap desk, rosewood graining on inside; "Samuel I. Thompson" stenciled on inside cover of desk; brass folding handles on sides; desk folds out to reveal writing surface and several inner compartments.
Notes History associated with object indicates that Thompson, Captain of the 2nd Mass. Regiment, made the desk and used it to write letters home to Woburn. He was wounded in the Battle of Malvern Hill, July 1, 1862.
