Admin/Biographical History The Woburn Young Men's Society was begun in 1833 and formally constituted in 1835. Membership in this association was open to youths between the ages of fourteen and thirty. Honorary membership was open to men over thirty by the approval of two-thirds of the membership. By 1835 there were one hundred and six members and forty-four honorary members. The society included a social library, noteworthy in that its holdings included neither fiction nor books on theology. The contents of the library were given to the Woburn Public Library in 1865 after the town library moved to its new location in the Wade block.
Scope & Content Organizational records, constitution and printed library catalogs for Woburn, MA association. Treasurer's book includes a list of members, accounting information and unattached documents such as a library card and receipts. Library Committee's record book contains acquisitions, circulation and miscellaneous unattached committee records.
