Admin/Biographical History The Baldwin Historical Society was established in 1972 and was a prominent historical group until 1983. Their mission was "to cultivate, collect, preserve, and publish data concerning the economic growth and history of Baldwin Mansion and related areas in Woburn…" The Baldwin Mansion was once owned by Loammi Baldwin (1744-1807), a resident of Woburn, Massachusetts, a prominent civil engineer and the construction superintendent for the Middlesex Canal. The BHS fought to preserve the mansion and encouraged its relocation. Some of their major events that they celebrated were the Bicentennial, Apple Festivals, and the move of the Baldwin Mansion. They also collected any historical papers found about the town of Woburn, most of the papers being about the mansion.
Scope & Content Records of the Baldwin Historical Society including meeting minutes, news clippings, photo albums, slides, scrapbooks and various office files. The documents span from 1972 to 1983, with the bulk being from 1974-76. Series 1 contains the Administrative Records organized alphabetically. They contain legal documents, correspondence, and newsletters among other office files. Series 2 contains photocopied images of all of the newspaper articles the society collected and saved from 1972-1983 and is organized chronologically. Series 3 contains negatives, slides and photographs taken by members of the society. This series also includes artwork and other images collected by the society.
